"I'm a Jesus Girl who can step on the scale and simply see an indication of how much my body weighs - not the worth of who I am!" Lysa Terkheurst

On July 9th I had Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery and this is my journey! I want to be clear that I DO NOT think this surgery is a quick-fix for weightloss and every possible means should be taken before even considering this path. It is VERY difficult and if I knew then what I know now, I would have done more to lose the weight on my own! Having said that, I'm thankful for my new healthier life and am accepting and taking charge of MY weightloss journey! And... ALL the glory and honour goes to GOD!

SVs

So I've had a couple posts called NSVs (Non-Scale Victories). Well today's post is entitled SV (Scale Victories). I usually wait until the end of my Sunday posts to say how much I've lost, but I'm too excited to wait. So here it is... I have lost 50 POUNDS!!!! I'm so excited to reach this milestone. I know it's not all about what the scale says, but it is nice to see the number go down on the scale every week. I lost 3 pounds earlier in the week and the rest of the week I was stuck at 49 lbs and the scales wouldn't move for the past few days (a few reasons for it - girl "stuff" and not being able to move the past couple of days because of sciatica). But today, the scales heard my plea and showed me the 50 pound mark!

On Thursday I decided to take my bike out of storage and take the kids for a bike ride. It was incredible how much easier it was to peddle this year compared to last year. Less stomach makes it easier I guess - who woulda thunk it! My butt was still killing me later in the day (is there really a seat out there for bikes that doesn't hurt?) We didn't do a HUGE ride - maybe 30 minutes altogether. But it was just good to get out exercising. I am going to attempt to play tennis this week with some of my young girlfriends. I hope I can keep up with them!

So here is my newest concoction. I took the frozen (Kirkland) Greek Yogurt with a tsp of sugar free raspberry jam. I mixed it and put it in a ziplock bag, cut the corner and then squeezed it into the individual containers. It freezes really well and tastes super yummy!

I've also started eating these protein bars. I have a hard time drinking protein shakes and needed something else to fall back on. I did some research and found that these protein bars are half the price in Detroit and I can get 6 more flavours. So I guess I will be making a trip there soon!

On Thursday I developed Sciatica again, which if you've ever had it, you know is very painful. So I haven't been able to do much the past couple of days. Today I took some pain meds and went swimming with the kids - I just had to get out and do something. I'm going to see my cousin-in-law, Dr. Nathan Kruse, tomorrow morning, who is a chiropractor so hopefully he'll be able to fix me up!

Well that's about it for now. I would like to once again, thank so many of you for your support and encouragement (if you leave comments on my blog as anonymous, please add your name to your comment so I know who you are!) I know there are still naysayers out there who think this surgery was a big cop-out and that I could have lost the weight with a bit more willpower. And to that I say, yeah, you're probably right. But this is what I did and I don't regret it at all. This is what
I had to do for ME. And I'm happy with the way I'm becoming less of me in body and more of me in mind, heart and soul!!

  2. So proud of you! 50lbs us a big milestone! You're well on your way. Maybe the sciatica is a result of the bike ride. That's my guess. Keep up the great work! Love, Mom

  3. Don't concern yourself with the opinions of others, do what you've got to do for yourself. EVERYONE knows how hard it is to eat right, exercise and maintain a healthy weight. 10lbs can be as difficult to loose and keep off as 100lbs. Keep on keepin' on, you're doing great! You have obviously not treated this surgery lightly, you're making all the necessary lifestyle changes to back up and support the surgery. A lot of people don't realize you can just pack the weight back on eventually, you have to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle, the surgery just gives you a jump start! I'd ask the nay-sayers if they have an issue with someone getting liposuction or other form of plastic surgery? Those types of surgeries can be just as controversial but much more widely accepted and in most cases, they don't make the person any more healthy, they just "look" better. God bless you, Dayna. Lots of people are rooting for you!

  5. Hi Dayna.
So glad that you are seeing good results. There is a bike seat at Wal-mart that is wider & has more padding.
Keep up the good work & take care of yourself.
