"I'm a Jesus Girl who can step on the scale and simply see an indication of how much my body weighs - not the worth of who I am!" Lysa Terkheurst

On July 9th I had Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery and this is my journey! I want to be clear that I DO NOT think this surgery is a quick-fix for weightloss and every possible means should be taken before even considering this path. It is VERY difficult and if I knew then what I know now, I would have done more to lose the weight on my own! Having said that, I'm thankful for my new healthier life and am accepting and taking charge of MY weightloss journey! And... ALL the glory and honour goes to GOD!

A Ten-Year-Old Lighter

This is going to be a quick post because I'm about to leave for Detroit in a few minutes to go to a concert with my girl peeps! We're going to see Kari Jobe and All Sons and Daughters. Can't wait!

I've noticed this week that I'm able to do more things that I haven't done in a while, like fold my arms comfortably, sit in a chair with arm rests and not feel like my hips are going to burst out the side, walk 4 kilometres without even one ache in my body (going to add 2kms this week), washed the whole van and detailed the inside without back pain, sweep and mop my floors without having to stop every two minutes to catch my breath, and so much more. It feels GREAT!!!

Well this week I had a big weightloss - probably because I was sick for a couple of days and didn't eat much. Last night I had a scary incident - I had a low sugar attack (Hypoglycemia). I've never had problems with my sugar before - ever. Thankfully, (well, not really, but...) a girl on my Facebook support group had the same type of attack a few days ago so I knew exactly what it was and how to deal with it. I got cold sweats, heart palpitations, and almost passed out. It was so scary. I had some orange juice and that brought things back to normal. This surgery sure brings a lot of abnormal stuff to one's body. But I'm learning to rely on many different resources to know how to deal with it all. I'm so thankful for the FB Weightloss Surgery Support Group. Such a HUGE help!

So this week I lost 9, YES NINE pounds! That brings me to a total loss of 73 pounds. I asked my friend's daughter, Emma, how much she weighed today. She said she's 72 pounds. So I took a picture of her on my back. And while she was on my back I was just blown away that for the past few years I had been carrying that much weight on me. It really puts things into perspective when you look at it that way!

The doctors originally told me they wanted me to lose 150 pounds altogether. So I am 2 pounds away from the halfway mark. I am going to try to lose more than 150 pounds because there is ALWAYS bounce-back weight, so I want to account for that. Anyway, I'm so happy that in less than three months, I have lost a ten-year-old person from my body!

Total Loss: 73lbs

  3. So very happy for you. Hopefully you won't have too many more of those low sugar incidents.....none at all would be best. Glad to know that you are doing so well. Nine pounds in one week is a lot. Make sure you DO eat, even when you don't feel like it. Don't want you getting sick. I love you and glad to know that you are doing well. Keep it up!
